Along with a dedicated design service, at Harrison Gardens we can provide a seamless transition into the build stage of your project. This eliminates the added complication of needing to find contractors to carry out the landscaping, construction and planting to the original agreed budget and schedule. Essentially we can cut out that stress, as we are able to supply materials, project manage and build the garden ourselves. It makes the transition smoother for you, the client, as you do not have to oversee this stage yourself. It also makes it easier for us, because we are working on the basis of a firm understanding of the project, working from our own designs.
Here is an example of a design & build project that we carried out in Essex. This garden was very long (48m) but relatively narrow (6m), so one of the main requirements from the client was to make the garden apper 'wider'. During the initial consultation, we took measurements and photographs, assessing the site's aspect, soil type, drainage and levels. We also took time to speak in detail with the client about exactly what they were looking for, from their garden.
After a concept plan and agreement was in place, our head designer took all of this information to produce a hand drawn master plan, with plant list and mood boards, presented to the client. In this example, hand drawn designs were chosen as the final plan - to view some our of CAD work, also available as a separate service, please As detailed in the designs (left), two main sections were created. The first area is a more formal design and feel, with circular lawns and a winding path to create the appearance of width. Planting is structured with a contemporary, muted colour pallette (greens, whites, lilacs). Spotlights are positioned along the path. The second area, screened off by hedging plants and accessed through a circular arch with climbing plants, is very different - bursting with colour and planting, an informal Oak boardwalk leads through the garden, which contains two seating areas (one with fire pit), a stumpery and up-lights highlight four main feature trees (Prunus serrula).
The build and planting stage (right), involved the supply and installation of all materials, plants and lighting (a new, dedicated exterior switchboard was installed at the clients' wishes), through to completion. We also agreed a maintenance schedule, so that we can help with the establishment of the plants and trees, on a longer term basis.
